Petroleum engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the study of techniques and methods to extract petroleum and natural gas. The field is not confined to extraction. It also involves the study of purification, manufacture and utilization of oil, gas, and liquefiable hydrocarbons to its best. Factories, automobiles, and even household consume the non-renewable fuels in large quantity, therefore search and exploitation of new oil sources from even complex geographical location is quiet necessary.

 

A petroleum engineer has to deal with different aspects of the field, including exploration of new sources, assessment of the natural characteristics, and production of machines in order to extract and process crude oil. The job of proper exploitation and refining of petroleum comes under the purview of a petroleum engineer. He/she needs to have abilities to work and coordinate in a team, as he/she has to work with geologists, analysts, geophysicists, safety, engineers, environmental / regulatory specialists etc. The profession requires dedication, commitment and devotion.
