Facebook is changing its Messaging policy, making it easier to get in touch with people not on your friend list. All you need is to know the person’s name.
Facebook is getting rid of the “Other” tab in your messages, which is only available on the web version. If you’ve never seen it, just click to open your messages in your browser, and there’ll be a greyed-out icon right next to where it says Inbox. As usual, if you and the person you’re trying to get in touch with are friends on Facebook, or you have an existing chat thread, new messages will go straight to your inbox. The change is that, now, if someone you don’t know sends you a message, you’ll be able to accept or reject the chat request, and they won’t know that you’ve read their message.
Faceboook says it will continue to tackle spam across the platform, but the change to messaging is definitely for the better. Now you can even use Messenger to talk to that client, or a a friend of a friend, without having to add them on Facebook first, a move clearly geared towards towards the company’s instant messaging app.
Message requests have already begun rolling out to all Facebook users.
