Is there a need for reinventing learning?

Well, let’s find out.

In this technology driven world there is an expiry date for everything. We are constantly reinventing, revising, and revisiting this world that we live in. However there is one particular aspect of our lives that we are desperately clinging on to; the learning system. Somehow staring at a board, cooped up in classroom is much too hard to let go.

Or so you think.

E learning has ruffled quite a few feathers with its radical approach to learning. There have been a lot of minds furiously working to counter this technology driven Faustian fate.

Social networking sites have managed to conquer the interest of the new generation and the smart phones only add on to the distractions. The old school folks are at a loss. They fret that the spirited youth may sell their souls to these electronic gadgets.

Or so they think.

Corporate organizations have come up with a way to tweak this double edged weapon named technology into an effective tool that can be utilized to efficiently communicate and market their products to the customers.

MyKlassroom.com a social learning platform, conducted Connect-Ed Klassrooms, a conference to discuss and deliberate on how social networking concepts can be effectively utilized in higher education to enhance the learning experience. The panel discussion was the life of the conference which provided plenty of ideas to mull over.

Experts from the academia and an industry expert from a content development company set the discussions rolling. Mr. T. Dheepan, Dr C. Ramakrishan and Dr V.P. Sriraman formed the voice of the academia while Mrs. Chitra Ravi, CEO of EZ Vidya represented the corporate sector.

One of the important topics of discussion was regarding the pitfalls of technology. Intermittent failures in technology need to be accepted and dealt with, but that shouldn’t deter institutions from abstaining from it. Another topic that was dwelt upon was that content developers needed to understand the restlessness of the digital era learners so as to cater to their needs. Extending social media to the education sector and finding a match of wavelengths between students and teachers were some of the other deliberations that surfaced during the discussion.

Here is a capsule summary of the Panel discussion.
