Cognitio 2013

Introducing “Cognitio”, the first annual medical extravaganza organised by the Students’ Association, Christian Medical College, Vellore. Medical students from near and far have, for long, made an annual pilgrimage, to be a part of our mediquiz, Epidauria, the grandest celebration of knowledge in this part of the world. This year, we present to you “The Conclave”, a research forum that brings together the best brains of the country, giving undergraduate students an opportunity to showcase their ingenuity and hard work before world-class faculty.
 

This year we are expecting around 700 students to take part in Epidauria itself. Along with the Conclave that we are hosting for the first time this year, we are expecting an overall turnout in excess of 1000.
 

We will be glad to have your college as part of Cognitio 2013.
 

The first day of Cognitio is The Conclave, a Research Symposium in which International authorities will give lectures on a wide range of topics in Biology and Medicine like Infectious diseases, Haematology, Cardiovascular system, etc. The audience will include Medical students, Bioengineering students and renowned researchers involved in recent developments of stem cells and the like.
In addition to the key note lectures, we also have Paper Presentations on Research projects done by Undergraduate students. We will be hosting two different streams which would include Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. The criteria for papers that will be accepted include:
- Current or previous KVPY Projects
- ICMR recognised Projects
- Projects that are approved by the student’s own institution
The students eligible for sending entries include undergraduate students as well as interns.
The topic can be of the students’ choice but must fall within the range of Biomedical Sciences or Bio Engineering. The structure of the paper to be sent should be of that in any acclaimed journal.

The papers will be accepted only by e-mail to conclave2013cmc@gmail.com. The top 3 entries in the Bio-medical category and the top 1 in Bioengineering stream will be decided by a panel of judges. These 4 students will have the opportunity of presenting their papers in the Research Symposium. The last date for sending in entries is 15th of June 2013.

Other than the selected four students, those whose papers are deemed worthy, but have missed out on the top three positions in the bio-medical category or the top position in the bio-engineering category will be also be given an opportunity to present their research as posters. These students will be intimated by the end of June. Hence all students submitting entries are requested to prepare their presentations in poster format and keep them ready to be printed. If chosen, the students are expected to print the posters themselves and bring them to the symposium. They will all receive certificates of recognition.All students, irrespective of whether they are planning to present or not, are invited to attend the symposium.

There is no fee for sending in the research papers. However, there will be a registration fee of Rs.100 for attending lectures on the day of the event. This fee will include lunch and snacks. Accommodation will be provided.

Epidauria is the annual mediquiz at CMC Vellore. It has long been considered to be the ultimate forum for testing one’s mettle and crossing swords with the best of the best. Epidauria is the ultimate conglomerate of knowledge, wit, analytical skills and creative thinking.

This year the team had planned for  have a Main Quiz (open to all students) and a Junior Quiz (restricted to first and second year medical students).

Both quizzes will feature teams of three (a maximum of 2 interns allowed per team in the Main Quiz) who are selected through an initial written preliminary round.
